Difference between anomaly scan and fetal echo

Anomaly scan. This ultrasound is a detailed scan performed usually between 18 to 20 weeks pregnancy. During the scan we examine each part of the fetal body, determine the position of the placenta, assess the amount of amniotic fluid, and measure fetal growth. Special attention is paid to the brain, face, spine, heart, stomach, bowel, kidneys.

The second trimester scan is a routine ultrasound examination which is used to assess fetal and detect the presence of any fetal anomalies. The second trimester screening scan or fetal anomaly scan is preformed at 18-22 weeks. This scan typically takes 30 minutes but may take longer if the baby is not "co-operative" during the scan. Skull theory and nub theory seem to be the most popular ways to predict if you're having a boy or a girl. Although they both require a first scan photo to look for clues as to the sex of your baby, that's where the similarities end. Skull theory revolves around the skull (as above) but nub theory looks at a little 'nub' that both boys and girls.
